| The Human Roach is literally what his name states, a larger-than-human sized anthropomorphic roach. He is always met with revulsion and disgust, and even more horrible, he often has a number of regular-sized roaches found on his body at any given time. His voice is a disturbing alternation between a screech and a hiss. | |||||
| BACKGROUND | |||||
|
Sergeant Samuel Reed was a career soldier assigned to classified OSDI security details, including facilities where Quasar-derived technology was being studied. Quiet, disciplined, and observant, Reed noticed that scientists were disappearing, records were being altered, and Dr. Henry Hudson had become increasingly isolated after receiving his Q-implants. After Hudson began warning Dr. Anson about the corruption spreading through Team Daedalus, Killblood arranged to have him murdered. The assassination was meant to erase Hudson quietly, but Reed happened to be outside the laboratory when the attack began. He intervened, saving Hudson’s life, but was mortally wounded by bio-engineered weapons and unstable Q-material. With no other way to save him, Hudson used an experimental insect-human Q-implant matrix codenamed **LEPIDOPTERA**. The implant had been designed for stealth, sensory enhancement, environmental resistance, and reconnaissance, using moth biology as its foundation. It had never been tested on a living human. The procedure saved Reed, but transformed him. His body mutated into a gray-brown, mothlike hybrid with black reflective eyes, heightened night vision, vibration and scent detection, armored wing membranes, wall-crawling ability, and the power to shed irritating or signal-disruptive wing-dust. The soldier who saved Hudson died on the table; the Human Moth woke in his place. At first, Reed was nearly feral. His expanded senses overwhelmed him, and bright light caused intense pain. Hudson, already in hiding, could not turn him over to OSDI, the government, or Team Daedalus. Instead, he protected Reed while developing his alternate identity as Dr. Symons. Their relationship became one of guilt, loyalty, and uneasy trust: Reed knew Hudson had made him into something inhuman, but he also knew Hudson had refused to abandon him. As Dr. Symons built the Whisper Alliance, the Human Moth became one of its most effective covert operatives. He rescued defectors, stole evidence from black sites, sabotaged ANTHEM surveillance systems, exposed false-flag operations, and protected those targeted by corrupt Quasar programs. To ANTHEM, he became a bioengineered terrorist. To the desperate, he became the thing that came when no official rescue would. During the trial of Team Daedalus, the Human Moth helped Dr. Symons reveal that the real Dr. Anson was already dead. The man killed in court was actually Killblood, the shapeshifter wearing Anson’s face. But the truth was buried. The public was told that the Whisper Alliance had assassinated Dr. Anson, giving ANTHEM the perfect excuse to rise to power and hunt Symons’s network. Later, the Human Moth tried to help Symons reach Dr. Xavier Brooks before ANTHEM fully consumed his work. He arrived too late. Brooks had been murdered, and the scene was staged to blame the Whisper Alliance. From that moment on, Reed became colder and more focused. He no longer believed truth alone could defeat tyranny; corrupt systems had to be exposed, disrupted, and broken. Samuel Reed remains deeply human beneath his monstrous appearance. He is quiet, watchful, and uncomfortable in daylight. He does not see himself as a hero. He sees himself as a consequence — of Hudson’s guilt, Killblood’s corruption, and ANTHEM’s lies. He operates from abandoned tunnels, hidden safehouses, forgotten OSDI sites, and ruined industrial zones. ANTHEM calls him a monster in the dark. The Whisper Alliance calls him a witness. And when the lights begin to flicker and gray dust drifts through the air, ANTHEM agents know the Human Moth is already there. |

| The Human Roach was created by a non-governmental underground program and abandoned, or escaped, from his confinement and creators. He operates on a near primal level, but he is excellent at hiding in urban environments because he can communicate and control roaches, a strategy he has often used to distract hunters or attackers. At heart, he is subservient and submissive to stronger personalities. | |||||
